Word 11- Malevolent (video)

Our word is Malevolent

It's an adjective.

Definitions:
1. wishing evil or harm to another or others; showing ill will; ill-disposed; malicious: His failures made him malevolent toward those who were successful.
2. evil; harmful; injurious: a malevolent inclination to destroy the happiness of others.
3. Astrology . evil or malign in influence.

In my own words, I would say that malevolent basically means evil or wanting to harm another person.

Sentences-
1. The robber got put in jail because he was malevolent of bill gates, that's why he tried to steal from his superfluous amount of money.
2. Frieza is malevolent, he destroys planets and innocent people just because he feels like it.

This picture Describes malevolent because this is a picture of freiza from dragon ball Z. Freiza has destroyed planets and civilizations and he is a power hungry evil villain. This video goes along with malevolent because of the same reasons for the picture. The video and the picture support eachother.

The explanation is the same as the explanation of the picture. frieza is the one in the video who blows up the planet and is laughing.

Synonyms-
mny word is a lot like jealous because jealous is when you want something someone else has. It's different though because malevolent means you want to cause harm or evil to that person, jealous doesen't always mean you want to hurt the other person or anything.

Antonyms-
An antonym of malevolent is benevolence, which means the desire to do good to others. Malevolent means evil or wanting to do harm to others. These words are the exact opposite meaning and they're self explanatory.

I would give this word a 4 out of 5 stars. I've heard this word many times but i never knew what it fully meant, which means there's probably a lot of people that don't know what it means so it's not a word you want to use often. The positives outweigh the negatives though because malevolent has many meanings and it describes an evil person better than saying just "evil" or "bad".

The best time to use this is with people smarter than you like in a job interview, school, essays, or whenever your trying to get a point across that someone is very evil and bad. I wouldn't use this word with young kids or people that are'nt high school graduates because they most likley wouldn't know the meaning of this word.

Word 10- Aloof

Definition:

Sentences:
1. They always stood aloof from their classmates, they hated even standing close to them.
2. The bank robber was running aloof, with no one following in his tracks, he was in his own world.

The joker is aloof because he's indifferent and basically disinterested. He's only interested in getting money and being a villain. He doesen't care about anything else and he has no feelings for the people he kills or interest in the bad things he causes. He's aloof.



The best time or place when using the word "aloof" is when talking about someone that is detatched or stands aside from a group. It could also be used when talking about a bank robber and how he is running around a city free to his own will.

My word is a lot like detatched or distant but different because aloof is more like being out somewhere, not necessarily being distant.

The word aloof is the exact opposite of near or close because they dont define aloof. Aloof is being far away instead of being close.

I give aloof a five out of five stars because its a fun word to use and it makes sense. It is also popular. I just like this word and it deserves a great rating.

Word 9- Superfluous

(This word isn't from the list of SAT words but I talked to Mr.V and he said it would count as one.)

Adjective

Definition:
1. being more than is sufficient or required; excessive.
2. unnecessary or needless.

My definition:
excess or large amount, more than enough or more then is required.

This picture is superfluous because she has way more food then shee needs. You can say that the extra food is unnecessary or needless. excessive amount of food for one person.

Sentences
1-The U.S is superfluous with water, we use about two-thousand gallons a day for each person while africa has only about forty to sixty liters a day per person.
2-Resturants are superfluous, they have so much extra food that almost half ends up getting thrown out and wasted.

I would use this word when talking about politics, economics, or if im describing people with excess things ( like rich people or the U.S.). I would use it in my essays, with my friends, with teachers, and wit adults. It's an easy way to say that someone or something is rich, has excess, needless, or more than is needed. I would much rather say "superfluous" then have to say " more than is needed". it not only sounds better but you can use it in many ways since there's a couple meanings to the word.

Synonyms
My word is a lot like extra, but its different because extrajust means that theres leftovers or more than enough. Superfluous means that there is excess, unnecessary or needless supplies or materials. It's a much better and more in-depth way of saying extra.

Antonyms
My word is the opposite of insufficient, which means not enough or inadequate.

I would give this word 5 out of 5 stars. excessive has always sounded wierd to me and it doesen't sound fluent. Superfluous flows very well when you say it. You can use this word whenever and it's just an awesome word to substitute for simple words like "more than enough" and "excess".

Word 8- Transcendental ( Video)

1-transcendent, surpassing, or superior.
2-being beyond ordinary or common experience, thought, or belief; supernatural.

Master Shifu is transcendental because he knows almost everything and hes basically supernatural. He's a great teacher to kung fu panda and he knows things about kung-fu that most people dont know. the definition of transcendental.

This is our video on transcendental. Everyone in this video in "transcendental in their knowledge and skills of kung fu, at least everyone besides kung fu panda at that moment in time. Those fighter are the best around and they're superior in their knowledge.

2.The avatar named Ang is transcendental; he has has lived for thousands of years and he knows how to bend water, air, earth and fire.

Synonym
My word is a lot like superior because the definition of transcendental is beyond ordinary, supernatural, vast knowledge, etc. This is basically what superior means. But its different because transcendental has a bigger meaning. Someone can be superior by just a little bit, but when your transcendental, no one's even close to you and your supernatural knowledge and skills.

Antonym
an antonym is peasant. Peasants are the lower class beings that worked for kings and were ruled by kings a long time ago. They don't have a say in anything and most people would agree that they're virtually worthless ( in sense of power and influence). This is the exact opposite of transcendental because transcendental means great, powerful, and superior.

I would use this word when talking to anyone with a good education(doctors, college students, teachers, etc.). Using this word in an essay for school or college would be good because the word sounds smart and if you want to come off as a smart person, you would use this word. I Wouldn't use this word when your talking with friends, family, or less educated people. Instead, use supernatural because that has close to the same meaning and it's more widely known.

I give this word 4 out of 5 stars. It has multiple meanings combined into one word which is awesome and useful. When you want to say something is amazing, you can just say it's transcendental and that will get your point across. It's a stronger word to use then superior or anything else. The downside is that you can only use it in certain cases because not many people know that word. Overall its a great word to know.

Word 7- Prodigius (Video)

Definition:
1-extraordinary in size, amount, extent, degree, force, etc.
2-wonderful or marvelous.

This is a picture of king kong. He is a giant, prodigius monkey. Monkeys are normally smaller than humans, the fact that hes the size of 1000 humans means that he is very prodigius; one definition of prodigius is extraordinary in size.

The Great Wall of China fits the word "Prodigius" the best because its extraordinary in size AND wonderful/marvelous. It's a perfect place and video to describe this word. From now on you can say The prodigius wall of China, it has a much higher meaning and describes it perfectly.

Sentences:
1. The monster was prodigius, he would make the space needle look like nothing if he was standing next to it.
2. The Great Wall Of Chine is prodigius, it stretches for almost 5000 miles and it's a very great feat.

The word prodigius is best used when your with smart people, like scientists, parents, teachers, coaches, etc. Most people like close friends or family wouldn't know the meaning of this word and then you'll have to explain it. It would be better to just say "amazing" or "awesome" when your with friends and family.

Synonym:
My word is a lot like awesome or amazing but it's different because it's almost like combining these two words. It's also a lot like huge or gigantic but different because it describes something monstrous or amazingly big.

Antonym:
My words the opposite of disgraceful. Prodigious means huge, wonderful, marverlous, and awesome. Disgraceful means embarrasing, weak, small, its the exact opposite of prodigious.

I would give prodigious a 2 out of 5 stars because its basiacally a smart persons way of saying amazing, huge, or awesome. I would prefer to say awesome because it's more widely known to everyone and ive never heard anyone say "prodijius" to me. The good thing about this word though is this can make you seem smart when your applying for a job or college.

Verdant basically means green. This picture is a lush green forest and all you see in this picture is green everywhere. This pictures a really good match because it's the definition of verdant; it's green.


Sentences:
1. Your lawn is looking very verdant today, all I can see is a sea of green when I look at your house.
2. Forests in washington are verdent year-round, this is because there's trees there that stay green throughout all 4 seasons.
3. The verdnet freshman got in the way of the upper classmen, this freshman has been known to be clumsy and not aware of the "clics" of highschool.

The word Verdant is best used with gardeners. Beacuse this word defines vegetation gardeners would most likely use it. Also by enviromentalists because they can describe enviroments by using this word.

My word is a lot like lush, or grassy but different because it Verdant is more about green vegetation.

My word is the exact opposite of baron. Verdant is grassy and baron is dry like a desert.

I would give verdant a five out of five stars because it's an easy word to understand and because its definition is simple.

oragmatic involves buisness and practical view points. This man is trying to explain to people about some of his views so he is pragmatic. He looks smart since he's in a suit and well taken care of so he also looks practical.

Sentences:
1. The pragmatics of the hoover dam were good for the economy, but bad for the enviroment.
2. It's pragmatic to think that farms are good for the enviroment, but they're actually very bad for water-habitats.

The word pragmatic Is best used when talking about business with businessmen or politics with politicians. This word has been know to have been used in business over and over again. evidence Is shown In the definition.


My word is kinda like down-to earth or realistic, buts its different because it seems to have a more safistiated flavor to it. It's also like "the effect" of something. ex. The effects of pollution.

I would give Pragmatic a 3 out of 5 stars because It isn't a hard word to understand once you know It, and It makes sense. I don't know how much It Is used in other situations, but It seems to be used In business a lot.

Word 4- Dogmatic

Definition: asserting opinions in a doctrinaire or arrogant manner; opinionated

Our word is like arrogant, snotty, opinionated, imperious because its defintion is about expressing ones opinions in an arrogant/proud manor.

It is an Adjective

Dogmatic is used best when describing someone who is expressing their opinion in a arrogant way.

I would use this word with my mom because shes an english tutor. I would also use it with polititions because some speak in an arrogant manor.

Sentences: "His opinions are very dogmatic, it's very arrogant because he thinks he knows everything. "
" He has a very dogmatic personality, not even a million people can change his view on things."

Our word dogmatic also describes Draco Malofy in the Harry Potter series because of how arrogant and opinionated he is about Harry and his friends.

Dogmatic is the opposite of humble, respectuful, honorable

I would give Dogmatic three out of five stars because when i hear the word "DOGmatic" i honestly think i dogs. I also do not think that many people use this word very often because of all the simpler ways of using its defintion.
